Utilizing several types of assessments gives each individual student who excel in one type, the opportunity to increase skill in another. It also reaffirms the knowledge taught
I think that students study harder when they know they have to take a multiple choice test. However, when they are preparing for an essay exam, they seem to take better notes in class. But, you're right, a variety of assessments is good for reaching all types of learners.
We use written and tactile testing. I find this helps assess both knowledge and ability to apply skills. Both are very important for future success.
