teaching approach

all teaching, no matter what is being facilitated requires a certain approach for its delivery and impact to be effective.

Hello...I also agree that when you are presenting or approach any subject...planning is key to success. I like using a direct apporach to get the students attention. I work with other instructors at the culinary school in which I currently teach and some disagree with me. Some feel that when you use an indirect apporach, you are getting the student to think more and pull information out of their memory. I feel that I lose the student if I am trying to "trick" them into giving me a correct answer. I also think this confuses them. When discussing a particular subject, I try to pull things that we have previously touched on in order to pull our current subject to full circle. In my experiendce, this has worked well for me and the learning success of my students. I am also very animated and comedic which I feel keeps their attention during any lecture.

Hi Kim - Thanks for your post to the forum. Teaching is really like performing and as you say, unless we capture our audience's attention from the beginning, we lose them for the rest of the play. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I agree. The apporach to a subject has to be very well planned because it is what is used to get the student's initial interest in the subject. The approach can be either hit or miss. When you miss, it is hard to regain the student's attention or interest.
