Fil in the blank questions

When dealing with highly technical material, it is often less confusing for the student if they are allowed to expand on the answer and not limiting them to a multiple choice situation.

When administering tests I think you have to be careful that the "answers" to Fill-In-The-Blank questions are not located within other areas of the test (example: multiple choice options).

I like Fill-In-The-Blank questions because that shows what the student really knows, instead of just narrowing down a list of 3 or 4 choices.

This method sometimes can be difficult or confusing to the student, because in my field, different manufacturers may use different terms or names for identical systems.

Hi Deborah, I prefer not to use word banks for this sort of assessment because it becomes more of a "matching" question.

When students have fill in the blank, they are wanting word banks to complete the fii in the blank test. why have that option for tese type of test?

Agreed! however there must be a thorough evaluation of the answers to determine understanding of the material since students could use such different verbage.

I to agree because true false qustions can be tricky, and misleading.

I completely agree, fill in the blank shows a better understanding of the material than giving them an option of the correct answers.
