Tests!

I hate multiple choice! I would rather right an essay but the problem that I have with essay is time limitation and it sometimes tests your typing skills versus actual knowledge, should we not do multiple choice?

Matthew, Thanks for your post to the forum. Although I appreciate your comments, ideally the goal of learning is just that - to learn. I am always concerned about the temptation to "teach to the test".
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I understand where your coming from felix, but I do like a test that is mixed up. multi, t or f. short essay. These have always been my favorite because you get a little bit of everything.

I think multiple choice is fine to use. I find that when I give essay questions, the grading can be difficult. Some students are really good at seeming like they know what they are talking about, but are really just trying to get by. My preferred method of testing is fill in the blank.

I would think that the subject matter or course would be a determining factor in the type of test used.

In the courses I teach, we use multiple choice questions on the quizes but the larger percentage of the students grade are based on skill tests done in a lab environment.

I agree I do not like multiple choice I feel students come dependent on the options instead of taking time to know the exact answer.

multiple choice is a good way to find out the answers but makes u choose which one, Essays make you THINK more about the answer.

Hi Felix, I see no problem with using multiple choice as part of an assessment program.
