Multiply choice testing moldeding

I have using multiply choice test since my students will be sitting for a national board exam that is all multiply choice. My thought is I want to get them used to how they are set up. My question is are my student missing out on learning without using other testing methods?

Hi Thao, Do you have a statement about that in the instructions for each test?

My tests are mainly multiple choice questions, but I often have students leave answers blank. I have repeatedly reminded them that if they guess and answer, they at least have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right, whearas leaving it blank gives a 0% chance of getting it right. Any suggestions on how else to approach students that leave multiple choice questions blank?

Standardized tests are used to assess large groups of individuals competing with each other. The NCLEX is a nursing entrance test that we incorporate in our weekly quizzes. Multiple choice questions are versatile, reliable, and can be easily validated.

I prefer multiple choice test. As they read the different possible answers it makes them think about what they have learned. But with what I teach they also have to demonstrate the skills they have gained during the course.

I agree we use both true and false and mltiple choice tests it makes the students think and go over in there mind what they have learned before they answer.

I do agree with the tru and false questions are easy, however using multiple choice questions allow the student to think before choosing the correct answer. This way they are learning too.

Hi Melissa, Thanks for your post to the forum. When I speak to the employers who will be hiring our grads they emphasize that they are looking for employees who can use critical thinking skills to apply what they have learned. The assessment strategy that you employ is essential to that goal. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

After graduation, my students will also sit for a board exam that will be 100% multiple choice. However, we are not only teaching our students to pass their exams, we want them to be knowledgeable, competent members of their professional community. Because of this, while the majority of the questions on my exams and quizzes are multiple choice, to ensure that my students have a complete grasp on the subject matter, I like to combine many questions types (multiple choice, matching, completion, short answer) on my assessments.

Tru/False is the way to give some tests always a great score and easy
