Mix it up.
Having different types of testing in one test keeps it interesting for the students. It's good to have a couple completion tests, multiple choice and a few T/F. This requires different types of thinking processes from the students. Essay questions are still the best test of a student's progress.
Hi Brian, I see no problem with your assessments.

My exam software by default separates multiple choice, true/false, essay, ect., into separate groups. I have modified it into merging the questions so that different types can appear at any time. Have I broken some unwritten rule or made it to confusing for the student?
I totally agree. Having a variety of testing method types, allows instructor to test the student's application of knowledge besides recall only.
I also agree...Many students of mine do better on one type and not so well on another.
Mixing it up gives everyone a better chance
I agree if you mix it up it makes the students to broaden the way they think about any given subject
Hi Ronald, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is a good mix of assessment options! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I whole heartily agree with you. In my course tests, I utilize some T/F, multiple choice, matching and essay style questions. I think it has a broader area of evaluating what the students have learned and works towards their learning styles.
That is a great idea...a little something for everyone!I do that as well, although I do stay away from essays. Being a trade school it would be the least of our testing types...if at all. we are more for skills application test.
