An instructor needs to maintain an open and humble minds set when it comes to technical instruction. As things change constantly and frequently. A student's personal experience may have them on the cutting edge. When you are not.
We don't know the background of our students, it would be a mistake to believe we are the only knowledgeable person in the room, I often learn as much from my students as the learn from me.
Nathan,
I agree wholeheartedly with your statement. There have been many times that I have considered leaving the workforce to teach full-time but the thing that keeps me from making that decision is the fact that I feel that remaining in the workforce keeps me in touch with new and evolving technology.

I always keep an open mind while instructing. An enlarged ego has no place in a classroom. I have learned many things from students that attended my class over the years.
I am learning from my students experiences and expertise everyday. Part of what I take from class each day. Many have worked in positions that I've not, had personal situations different from my own, and had opportunities that I've not. From that I reevaluate my way of presenting, interacting with them. I think we both take more away from the class when I have the opportunity to reflect on their position instead of my own.
Hi Nathan,
I couldn't agree with you more. I think that facilitating student learning can be a humbling experience for the instructor unless that person goes in humble. There are always people with different experiences to share. I find listening to them interesting.
