Managing Your Time
I find at times it's best to present the next days outline at the end of class so that you can focus on key points the following day. This eases the student pressure and allows more question and interaction with the Instructor.
A course calendar for the whole course helps students plan ahead of time for quizzes and exams.
I always find that having an outline of what we are going to be doing that day is helpfull. I also have a schedule for the following day, as well as assignements for the entire week.
This way the students always know what is expected for a whole week at a time
Teachers can model time management skills, as well, to students. Providing a structured environment helps them manage their class time. Since it is true they will have to manage their time in the workplace, we should start modeling time management by planning the week or the day in advance, being prepared for class and being consistent during the course. Students will benefit from learning how to manage their tasks on both a personal and professional level.
Sometimes its good to outline the whole week on mondays and recap at the end of each class day. It keeps the students looking ahead.
I like your (POE) acronym. I'll try and use it in class
Greetings Mark!
Time management is a challenge for everyone these days. We have some much stimuli in life, time has a way of getting away from us. But as long as we have a plan and are conscious of time, it's more likely we will have success in the classroom.
How could we get students to help with time management in the classroom? Students will be responsible for managing time in the workplace - so - what better place to learn than the classroom.
Keep up the good work!

I let the students know the first day what material we will be covering. Each day, we go over that day's activities/goals. The following day, we review from the previous day. The students know what to expect and they can better prepare for each day's activities and look forward to them.
Excellent practice that I find to be very effective. Doing a recap at the end of the class of the content discussed and what to expect for the next class have provided students a good road map. In addition, it also alerts them on what they must focus on, especially if I am giving a post test after the dicsussion.
I agree Jeffery,
I try to write down what we are doing each day along with the time it should take to do each task.
Then I go over what we did that day and then explain what we need to be ready for the next day. Sometime it works and you know the rest.
Hi Jeffrey!
Whether you post the info at the end of a class or at the beginning, it's important to remind students about the class schedule/daily plans. It better prepares students and directs their focus where it should be placed.
Keep up the good work!

I agree and coming to work early and writing the day's schedule on the board along with a class schedule that the students have with them from day one helps as well.
Come in prepared, come in prepared ,come in prepared.
If you are prepared and have the pertinent information in a precise organized and informative manner, you not only show students that you are ready for class with the information that will make the class successful, but also shows the students that preparation is the key to success.
my acronym for this is....
P (Planning)
O (Organization)
E (Execution)
This works for both students and Instructors alike.
In the fast paced lives we all live, and with the attention span of many of our students it is very important that we find ways to maximize the quality of time that the students get. So as mentioned earlier, getting substantive end of class reviews gives the students an overview of the next days work and so they can prepare themselves and be ready for the following days activities.
teaching students to manage their time is so cridical for their learning developement exspecially in their early stage of their education.making sure they all know what is going on the next day before they leave gives them the best opportunity to succeed.
to manage your time in class you must allow student to read over chapters at home and when they return to class the instructor needs to have the chapter outlined or use power points on the chapter helps to reduce lecture time.
Hi Trinidad and Glenn!
I like to post the learning and review objectives for the day and review them at the end of the class to ensure those objectives were met. Then the next morning have a very quick review.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Jennifer!
I think it is a matter of being prepared and organized. The daily class plan is very useful in helping instructors stay on track.
Keep up the good work!

I totally agree. For the first few classes I had trouble wrapping up and starting class in a cohesive way. By recapping and then explaining what was coming up I helped myself know what to say.
Glenn, I find that reviewing s previous days key points at the beginning of class and foreshadowing the next day’s lesson at the end of class is very helpful to the students to retain the necessary information in class.
