Hands on Lecture
In my class we dissassemble and reassemble components that pertain to what we are discussing. Not " inside of this component you will see :blah, blah. Instead its do you see these components.
I also feel hands on is a must for technical learning, it gives the students the feel and visual needed for experience.
Harold,
this is very true. I've found that it really is helpful to mix the two together as much as possible.

hands on learning is a good way to students to learn when doing other things than just lecture
That is a useful idea for me. My students do okay with memoriztion of definitions, but when we get to body processes their comprehension plummetts. I may use this as a group project to get them understnading why filtration has to happen before reabsorption, for example. Thanks!
Hearing the information is one style of learning, then reinforcing what you've learned in the lecture is followed up by the hands on lecture, a great way to see what you were talking about in motion.
I totally agree with you, some students may get the wrong impression that everything is hands on, when infact everything needs to have an instruction manual
I always keep a notepad and take notes on words the students thrive on so I can use them again during other lectures.
I offten convince students that lecture unlocks all learning styles and hands on demonstrations reinforce, strenthen the learning
We sometimes use upper class level students to demonstrate. It is less threatening and students can better see themselves in the role. There is value to the older student too.
I agree! I like to do the talking and ask for a volunteer from the class to do the hands on as I walk them through it. I have had very good results with this approach.
I agree. In my class, it seems much easier to actually show them how to do a certain task than to just simply lecture. I usually try to divide them into groups as well, which makes it more fun and a bit more interactive than just plain lecturing...
Lecture is a phrase that seems impossible to get away from. Using this "hands on" type of method is very effective in keeping it from feeling like this
