interactive demos

teaching in a technical field. One can only talk about a part for so long. If the student is touching the componet as we discuss it. It helps them get a better understanding about what it actually does.

also, when demonstrating a skill, it is often the mistake that is the greatest teaching moment. It gives the answer " what to do when..."

even if its is not hand on but a software there students can apply their knowledge, also counts.

I agree with Troy, hands on works best , having them go into a demo right off the start both feet first. This has really helped in instructing a class in a tecnical field.

Not only that but if they didn't clearly understand the demo they find it easier to ask questions while you are there working directly with them

I find having the students mirror the demo with the instructor builds confidence and understanding.

I agree, there is nothing better than hands on training in my opinion.

No doubt, theory and lecture are essential to education. However, practical application is primary in our industry and we must emphasize such by demoing consistently and constantly.

Having the students do the task in steps as you discuss with them the different components of each step gives them a very in depth understanding of the procedure.

Agreed, sometimes it in a technical school, they learn more from having their hands on it and "failing" so they have a better understanding on how things work, not just from you saying "this is how it is".

Hi Manuel!

I, too, agree. When an instructor keeps the student's attention, the student will learn.

Keep up the good work!

I agree with you Mike.. as well i like to put the students in hands on situations and provide them with intruction at the same time. this in my opinion is the best way to keep there attention and keep them intrested.

I try to hit as many of the learning styles as possible with handouts, lecture, and hands on demoes to help give the student a full undestanding of the component.
