At the Beginning
I find that if I tell my students how much I have learned from teaching a course it will inspire them and also make them realize that they, too, will not know everything and that is okay. I also tell my students that I do not know everything and if you ask me a question I do not know we will figure out together or I will ask them to do some research on their own. They can then share with me only or also with the class!
Corliss,
objectives really are a key part of the instruction & help set the stage for learning.
Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
An excellent way to begin class is introduction of objectives!
I relate class learning objectives to duties students may be asked to perform on the job or use in their future. This usually excites them and helps them to focus on the topic. Hands on activities help them to master their skills and increase confidence in performance.
The students life experiences, related to a topic been teach, give them the oportunity to see how much positve impact the learning activities will help them to improve, a key for positive motivation.
Ryan,
this is a great way to start the class. It demonstrates your own desire to continue learning & as you said hopefully inspires them to keep after it & continue to learn.
