music in class

I agree the student can not pick the music I use up beat soft music in class and a little more energtic in lab I have also been told by my students that some tunes bother them to where they can't concentrate I play all the music I plan on useing on myself or my wife while we're engaged in studing or reading if she or I notice it I don't use it. The public library I use plays music and I have taped their sound track

Hi Raymond!

Music does not work for every instruction nor for every class when it works for the instructor. It's just another tool in our toolbox.

Keep up the good work!

good for you, it is what it is, and if it works for your class it will work for others, I personally do not like to use music in the classroom except perhaps when taking a test, something soft in the background seems to be sufficient,

Hi Luis!

This is a good idea - but could you put something together to provide to your organization as a recommendation? You might be able to do a little research online for the type of music being used in classrooom settings. Good possibility that you have colleagues who already have music they are using.

Keep up the good work!

I WISH THE COMPANY I WORK FOR WOULD CREATE A DATABASE OF APPROVED MUSIC SO THAT I MAY USE IT IN THE CLASSROOM.

I've used a light jazz and a more new-age instrumental type of music. Some jazz might be distracting if it branches off into many interesting phrases, so I'd stick with the quiet invisible jazz. Thanks for sharing!

Smooth jazz works well while students are reviewing for exams and case students. It allievates unnecessary distractions

Be careful with the copyright on music you use in class. Generally, purchasing music on CD only allows you to use it for private use, not in public. Check out Gary Lamb, Lindt, www.trainerswarehouse.com and exercise CDs for music that is copyright free. Keep to music that is instrumental, in a major key, and uses higher frequency instruments (flutes, piano, etc.) not low (like bass, drums, etc.)
