Does your classroom match your subject matter?
Since I teach at an automotive technical school it would stand to reason for our rooms to be full of automotive type material. Not so! The rooms here are very bland (beige) and very little is in the room to help with the learning enviroment. You could teach computer science in any of the 5 rooms I have to use for my Hot Rod and Ford classes. Windows would be nice but again the rooms are on the interior of the building. Sun light would have to be shipped in from afar. Music is also banned and no outside material is allowed in for fear of being sued for it's use.
Got any ideas?
That sounds wonderful. It sounds very soothing and peaceful.
I'm starting to consider bringing some plants and maybe a fish tank in my classroom while I'm teaching. Maybe a little mini water fountain!
Chuck,
Just a thought, but could you draw almost extreme attention to the boards right at the very beginning & then acknowledge that is probably overwhelming to the students? Then point out that in just a few weeks these boards will make perfect sense & they'll understand it all? This might be a real motivator? Just a thought.

I fully understand your situation. I also teach in a technical trade school. My subject is Residential House Wiring. As you stated, no music, nothing electronic can be brought in and
my walls are covered with electrical circuits that the students find very interesting.
My problem is that these boards are not used until after the first three weeks of class and
they seem to be very intimidating to the students. I almost wish I could cover them until needed! Any sugestions?
Unfortunately your room sounds alot like the room I use. We do have a lab but we are not supose to have lecture in the lab room. Go Figure.
