music`
I agree sometimes music in the class can help- when I was in culinary school we would listen to classical music while doing knife cuts. I found it to be relaxing
I totally agree. I teach automotive and found when students are working on task sheets where they are sitting in side vehicles for extended amounts of time using diagnostic scan tools, they actually show more progress when I make the call for them to sit down listen to something they like on the cars radio, and enjoy learning. WOW what a difference, especially night students.
As long as it is enhancing the learning process I think it is great. Never should be the student's choice of music.
On the subject of music in the class room my problem is choosing music that everyone likes. I have found that if a few students dislike the type of music that I play it can cause the oppiset reaction that was intended.
Hi William,
I agree with you. I certainly see how in some situations background music can be useful. However, I am similar to you in needing silence when studying or focusing. In college I had a professor who used to play classical music when we took exams. I asked to go into another room because it was distracting.
I have never used music in my classes, I could try it but do not believe in all the subjects I teach, I could make
william,
I think this demonstrates the need to really know our students & what would work best for them.

I have to agree. Music can be distracting and nerve racking when used at the wrong time.
I get lots of requests for music in my classes.
I will try to incorporate it.
I am not totally convinced that music is good in the classroom.
Not everyone can think with music playing, its an extra stimulus that may distract from the learners thought process.
I never listen to music wnhen studying, I had to have complete silence or I would get distracted.
In todays learning environment with many students claiming to have A/D/D I would think many more students get distracted from the music.
Facilitators need to understand where music is a learning tool or a convenience to the student learner. There has to be a blanace between what is a distraction, what is a motivation.
Sometimes upbeat musisc can stimulate depending on the class make-up
I agree that soothing music is appropriate to help calm and reflect
I agree. Soothing music can help stimulate your thinking abilities-and keep you focused.
