Music...depends on the class

Music can relax, pump up etc to students, but if one student is not working well with it then I would not use it. Selection also has a lot to do with it. When I was in undergrad, my music instrcutor told everyone to bring in one song to play and then critique. I heard everthing from rap to classical and stuff I had never heard. I took in Frosty the Snowman, but Berl Ives. It does not matter who likes what everyone like Frosty or has heard of it...Class loved it and laughed the professor - Not So Much!

Nice try Adasme..
I find that in a culinary/kitchen setting music, no matter what type, is a dangerous distraction. When dealing with fire and sharp objects the focus needs to be 100% on the task at hand. All music creates a distraction at one time or another and in the kitchen it is always at the wrong time!

I have some CDs that are classical music, "Tune Your Brain with Mozart" and "Bach for Book Lovers" are two titles that come to mind. They are supposed to stimulate brain activity. We always listen to classical music before standardized testing. I rarely play music while students are working because some are distracted by it. Sometimes if we are working on a project that requires some doing but not a lot of serious concentration, I put some music on. I NEVER play music while testing. I also NEVER just turn on the radio because I can't trust what the DJs will say these days.

slow music sometimes helpful for the learning procees, but it should be restricted to soft jazz.

Volume may make a difference too. It may not be the most pleasing - but if the volume is low, it may not bother people.

I agree. We must be aware of what we play. we don't want to over excite a class.

Nice story Anderson..
I think music can help relax students and sometimes concentrate on their tasks
however, some technical classes require action, and some fast music might actually create stress in some students.
pre- screening the music before it plays, might help with this
