Understanding

It is very positive to pass around parts for the student to learn easier if they can look, see, and touch.

My kitchen class is totally understanding the product & the cooking results by hands on.

I think that it is important for students to learn how to research in finding answers. Pass around the parts and ask questions on the parts. Students will have to do research in order to find answers. This is essential at least for my field. Then after the debriefing can compare how students went about their research and learn from each other there.

I agree. Some people are stronger than others when it comes to hands on activities. Some students have more experience than others to draw from. The key is to use different teaching techniques to help cover the different learning styles of your students.

Hi Erica!

Repetition is a great teacher!

All of our training is hands on and the more they touch it the better they get. Most students here need to touch and feel it or they do not get the understanding of how it works or goes together. Repetitive action always make for faster times so having they do things more than one time helps.

I also did the same I have the students go out in lab and show them every thing about brakes and the basic system so when we do lecture the have some type of understanding on the topic. also I put them in study groups and have them read the chapter as a group and answer the questions. This seems to work and keeps them awake and intrested on the subject and students also will have trainners in front of them.

During carberation day I will have all students take a carb and as a class we take it apart one part at a time and disscuss each part and its funtion to the part it is connected too, this pratice has increase there performance when they get to clinic 7

I find it is very helpful to pass around parts and try to explain relationship and operation.
Unfortunately, very often students don't understand just how parts relate to each other until they see complete unit and have to disassemble then reassemble it.

Even more so if you involve those students with hands on and maybe a competition between classrooms that involve there learning objectives it seems to increase there willingness to learn and be there everyday..

I agree it is very important to show the students what they are working with as it is important to know they understand what to do with these parts.I have seen lots of book smart students stumble when confronted with hands on so having them put their hands on as many times as possible is always a good thing.I will tell te students do things over and over until they feel comfortable and ask for all the help they need that is why we are here.
