Hi Wilfred!
Why does the course require so much lecturig? Are there other ways that the materials could be presented to break the class time up a little more?
You might ask your students for ideas.
Keep up the good work!

I find the best results when there is a large section of the class that is lecture, is to break it up with activities such as getting up out of the seats and giving them examples that relate to the lecture. I find stories sound like lecture.
I teach a course that has a great deal of lecture. I find that short breaks,to discribe how the information that we are covering, applies to work in the field, helps to keep them engaged.
Why can't we include activities during lecture? I have a hard time staying/reading with the lecture myself, so I know the students zone out. I have found talking about the topic, asking the students questions and bringing them to lab before the lecture, makes learning fun and helps them retain the large amount of information. Now I can use the lecture as my "debriefing."
in the middle of a long lecture I like to change things up with an activty or a trip to the lab to reinforce the lecture objective
Hi Darrell!
Great strategy! I call this accidential learning. I have seen the light come on for student doing activities that could never be turned on with lectures and mixing the two is a winning situation.
Good job!

Our classes are three weeks long so it is very important to have your activities prepped. The students are much more involved in the lecture when you break it up with short activities.
I understand what you are saying. We have very short terms also. Maybe if you bring some training aids or learning activities into your lecture and you can combine them.
Sounds challenging. Im not an expert, but have you consider introducing sometype of activity for your lesson in a small dose?... So you can see your students reactions and adjust to their reactions. The confidence will come when you succeed on your attempts.
