I teach my students the same way I like to learn, hands on. I always try asking my students how they like to learn. Must of my students are hands on learners. Therefore having an item in their hand while I am speaking about it helps.

Sharron,
Yes, I think the important point for we instructors is not to assume that all students want to learn the way we do. We must develop & incorporate variety into our teaching.

I think we can't say that all learners are hands-on learners, any more than to assume that all students learn from lecture. The majority of learners do best with hands-on and it adds fun and variety for all students, but we can't forget the students who need to find personal meaning to what they learn or the student who is perfectly happy to read it and be done with the learning in a shorter time because that is their style. There are also students who learn the basics best when they can begin to see the possibilities of divergence.

Many students are hands on learners. I teach a class where it is difficult to provide that, so I use a variety of learning methods to engage the students.

In a Tradeschool environment like here that is the best tactic. I agree with the concept of passing out training aids as the lecture goes so the students can see and touch the part/object they are learning about. Without the hands-on experience, the lectures are just words.
