changing things up
Usually we lecture first about the subject.... then demo the task. try breaking up the lecture with smaller demo's during the lecture. This gets them out of the seat and moving around.
Christine,
I think the more variety we can use in our presentation techniques the better chance we have of really reaching all of our students.

I like to do lecture, use the whiteboard, powerpoints and demonstration to follow. Games are good for review.
Agreed, the lecture to demo can be very repetitive. I find myself falling into better habits that are based off of the comprehension by multiple demonstration throughout my classroom time. I would advise this to other instructors as well.
Thank You,
Ian
I have tried doing the hands on demo first and then going over the material after, works well in many cases.
I have always beem an advocate of personal interactive demo's as opposed to one large group demo. I will break my class into two person groups and explaine to them all the task at hand and the steps needed to complete the task. I have stopping points along the way and as each group reaches a stopping point I will come over to them and Demo the next step and then have them continue on. This method allows students of all skill levels to acheive without the pressure of feeling rushed. If I have to do a demo 12 or so times so be it, that is what I'm being paid to do.
This is something new that I have never heard of can you please provide more information? I would love to adopt this into my class if it helps students in learning our objectives.
Sometime during demos, I ask the students what to do next. If they have give the wrong answer sometimes I will go with it. It really gets their attention when something goes way wrong.
Let them sit on the hard stool .....talk till they get up and walk around then tell them to sit becouse your not finished.......
