Knowing your audience sets the condition for learning

If you know the level of education / experience of the students. You can set the tone of the classroom.

I agree, getting to know the particular students that I will be working with makes a difference in how I facilitate the class. Each class has a different personality, as a facilitator, it is my responsibility to recognize what the best learning atmosphere is for these students. I have facilitated the same class twice and due to two completely audiences, the types of instruction used varied from class to class. One thing that doesnt change from class to class is that the don't like being read to - change it up, get involved, share stories and situations, allow student to do the same.

i like to get some student back ground. where they are from and where they want to go

By knowing each persons abilities you can match those with certain difficulties with those who have strengths for team work which is a win win situation
