Learning Techniques
Employing a variety of learning methods better engages the instructor and give the student the most opportunity for success.
I'm agree.Learning strategy instruction focuses on making the students more active learners by teaching them how to learn and how to use what they have learned to solve problems and be successful.
I agree in using a variety of learning methods engages both the instructor and students to retain the information to their long term memory. I try to use different types of learning methods for the same topic to concrete the information even more. For example, have a handout of the human cell, use the microscope to observe, have the student draw/color a cell, and also construct a cell with all of its parts along with labeling and have function of the parts list.
I agree with using different learning techniques to help the student with the permanent input of information. But, trying to satisify all the different types of learning styles, how people process. abcd, and debriefing is going to take some time when preparing for activities or lectures. So I guess advanced preparation is key.
Michael,
I agree with you that many times handing out the slides can be an effective way to keep the class moving & to help them engage with the material.

It is often difficult to pick any one style or technique for all students as a whole, because not all students will be able to follow along at the same rate of learning.
I have students who will only write down what is put on the board and never write down what is presented to them verbally.I need to say "this is important" in order to get them to write down the spoken word.
Other students are slow note takers and hold up the class. I have begun to give out copies of the power point slides to everyone. We will discuss the topics and this helps to keep the class moving forward as a group.
Students seem to learn quicker if they use different senses. If a student hears a lecture than reads about it, than writes about it they retain more of the subject.
Implementing a variety of learning styles is one thing, but picking out the ones that really work will make a difference.
