I think we have all faced this, Cristina, and it can be very discouraging. Each class is different, so I think this particular module with all of its suggestions is valuable. Sometimes one has to just keep trying until something works. It isn't always easy, and I have just learned a couple of things here that I am eager to try.

One way I found to help create motivation is to get the class into lab on the first day,this will get the students working instead of sitting and will give them hands on,so when you talk about the subject they will have a small amount of knowledge to relate to.

definitely not an ultimate solution, but have you tried to get them reconnected to their passion for the subject/career field? Sometimes in the midst of the learning, we forget why we're here.
