Playing games
Most of my students are younger and respond to the challenge of game playing. They retain more information through this process. It also reaches those students who normally do not interact in class.
Zack,
that's absolutely true. This type of assignment can really help them review & retain.

What you may consider doing is giving the students the "Jeopardy" PowerPoint presentation and ask them to take it home. It would be a neat "homework" assignment that they can do to help them retain the material a bit better.
I like to play games with an open book so they will look for the answer and student love it.
Yes it is true. It keeps my students involved in the lecture and also something to look forward to.
Kevin,
games really do provide an excellent way for our students to learn & grow as they learn or review the concepts.

I use games as a way to review the day before test. My students are 19 years and up. Depending on the class I'll do a either a jeopardy style game or in teams like family feud. The competition in this age group gets intense, and the students really enjoy the bragging rights when they do win. What I enjoy is that they're actually learning and having fun doing so, pretty cool concept I think.
Joyce,
games can really be a plus & a help in the classroom.

I agree it brings the shy people out of there shells. It also gets the problem student fall asleep or chit chat.
I agree, most of my students are of a younger age. They do enjoy the interaction with eachother. They enjoy playing word games to text question. I am going to add more games to the classroom to keep students interested and engaged
Susanne,
it can be time consuming, yet it can be worth it. Having the students work on it is helpful to them as it really does help them with the material.

This is something that I would like to do, but it is so time consuming that I have not been able to do it yet. I had a student develop a Jeopardy game she used at the conclusion of a presentation that was tremendously successful. Having them look up answers might be a way to cut down on the time that I am so concerned about.
in my class we play thunder slam Basketball review. one side of the class plays against the other. the class works out great the winning team gets candy. I use review cards before the test.
Shronda,
games are a great way to encourage thinking & review information.

Bette,
and really can be a great learning opportunity for them.

I find that playing games is a release. It gives students the opportunity to be part of a playing field that they have grown up with and relate to.
Latasha,
games can be a great addition.

Yes I love what it taught me about games hopefully this works in my class.
