Maximizing Retention with Pleasure
I once read a quote that I can now only paraphrase; What you learn with pleasure you learn forever.
I try to make each student's learning experience fun, relavent and enjoyable. We laugh, we play, we build mnemonics to enhance memorization and we debrief by applying what was learned to the profession the students will enter when done with school.
Hi Scott!
What a great approach to a positive learning experience. When people are comfortable in their environment, it also supports and enhances positive self image.
Keep up the good work!

Learning is best when it is a possitive experiece. The best way to do this is to make a relaxed, safe and enjoyable envirornment.
I agree that having fun and enjoying the day makes a termendous difference in the retention of students. I try to add some comic relief to bothe lecture and demo knowing that it can help spark recall later on. I know i must look silly at times, but it is a small price to pay for positive results.
Greetings Juan!
When I experience satisfaction from students I see that as total buy-in to the course, t0 the topice discussing and to te instructors style.
Good job!

I noticed thru time that I get better rettention in the students when I plan games or when they are more involved with the production of it.
This is true. I will try to implement this more in my classes.
So true, if you enjoy your job and truly believe in what you do you can help the student enjoy and learn at the same time. When they are having fun and learning they will retain more, because it was fun.
Hi Patricia!
Very astute of you to realize that a connection to each student is important. I have found that some students are more difficult to connect with. They just want to get it over with!!! What thoughts have you given to connecting with the more stand off student or difficult student or the one who wants to monopolize the class?
Keep thinking - you are definitely on the right track.

I think from absorbing this material, that as an instructor I need to find an emotional connection for each student so that they relate to the material or the class in a personal way.
It can be through a variety of activities, but seeing the "Ah-ha" in their eyes is worth the price of admission.
