positive talk
I try and be positive in class about isssues or topics that students bring up. It always help them see the positive in their problems and focus on solving them rather than dwelling in why me kind of scenarios.
They move on soon and feel better atleast for awhile and focus better on the project at hand and how to move forward rather than being confused and frustrated.
George,
so true & we need to be aware of the "vibes" we are sending to our students.

Much truth to the fact a student will pick up on your attitude in the class. To be a positive roll model you have to be that person that motivates them from the minute the students arrive until they depart.
Being positive in the classroom is a must and letting the students know that hard work and determination will pay off in time.
positive talk is very important keeps them in tune
Every morning i write on the board daily encouraging thoughts , to help the students make it.
True but there are those times when we lose it. I try to be positive all the time and give all my students the same help but there are times i just take a walk outside and regroup.
When my students present a negative scenario or talk negatively about themselves, I ask them a series of questions to get their thinking back on track. For example, let’s say that Sam is afraid that she will not do well on her exams – I ask her why she thinks that, if she thinks that it is always true, and then I ask her why the opposite couldn’t be true. If she agrees that the opposite could be true (and they always do), I ask how she could make it true (study harder and better, keep positive, etc.). Once the students start to focus on the possibilities, the negativity goes away.
I feel that discussing the objectives with the students at the beginning of each chapter is an important step in setting the students expectations as to what they are about to learn.
COULD NOT AGREE MORE,ALWAYS MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE EVEN IF YOU ARE HAVING A BAD DAY.STUDENTS CAN PICK UP ON IT.REMEMBER YOU AS THE INSTRUCTOR, ARE SETTING THE TONE FOR THE DAY.THE GLASS IF ALWAYS HALF FULL.
Remaining positive in my opinion will also improve communication between the instructor and the students.
Hi Tim!
Positive talke also improves self esteem and helps a student who is struggling feel like they can do it!
Good job!

Positive talk improves learning and wanting more whereas negative talk can frustrate it/
This is so true. It is all about the power of positive thinking. If you are interested in your topic and it shows the students are more likely to open up to the idea of school being fun. College students tend to be very serious sometimes and have a hard time letting down their guards to have fun. On the other hand you have those that have too much fun (are disruptive). As long as you can balance this situation you can implement multiple activities that are fun/entertaining but most importantly the students are learning.
Hi Reichard!
An instructor must put on a different face when entering the classroom - a positive, supportive, can do face. We set the stage for learning.
God work!

when I get to discuss a topic about a system that I enjoyed working on I will let them know that I find this toipic/ system very interesting
make objectives clear and have a thorough review.
Greetings Robert!
I couldn't agree more. I find that students are much more engaged for the entire length of the class if they know what to expect. I'm sure that you much do this at the beginning of each class as well as do a quick review from the last class.
Good job!

The students need to have a reason " as to what they will learn" up front ( at the beginning of class) to feel that the class will be of value. The odjectives as well as a demo at the beginning of a class, sets the pace for productive learning and students interest.
That comment is true. If we have a positive attitude it will show with our students. The positive talk can be brought down if we have an attitude.
