Using Colors
How do other's feel about the walls being painted blue in the classrooms? I think it is great!
I don't know about colorful walls, but I do love color in the room. Such as markers, poster, different objects.
need. I like the idea of using student creations.
I use 2 dry eraser boards and 4 to 5 different markers to enhance the students learning.
For my culinary class I draw out the cooking step in sequence using the colors to let the students beware of dangerous or faulty steps (Just like a traffic light) in the cooking process.
I also draw the proteins in color to show the time and length of cooking times for either a tough or a tender piece of meat, and the cooking methods for set protein.
Students are now able to put a color to a specific step and execute the technique and dishes for the day. It is also easier for them to follow understand and remember when it comes to assessments......a color to a step!!!
I agree that accent items with soothing colors are a great way to go.
Very soothing and conducive to learning.
Hi Amanda!
I like using colored accents as well - students respond well to them! But when a school plans to paint classrooms consideration should be given to what works best in the classroom environment. There are many studies which recommends color choices. Please take a look at the following.

The color really depends on what you're teaching and how long students are in that room. I think adding colored accents is better than painting a wall because you can change out the accents often depending on the topic/subject teaching that quarter, week, etc.
Color, contrast, posters and so on are critical.
The use of these tools helps draw the attention to them, and it allows students to focus on the work at hand in a non threatened mannor.
Recipe books, and enlarging them and placing them on the daily production plan are great tools that I am starting to use.
Good job Kurt for thinking outside the box. Sometimes we have to be creative, but we can usually give students what they need. I like the idea of using student creations.
Keep up the good work!

The company I work for has a strict policy on wall color. But I have found that using colorful displays that feature our course subject, and very well drawn posters that some of my students have drawn, makes for an interesting learning enviroment.
