Pygmalion Effect

One must always be aware of how they speak and act. If a student perceives negativity his emotional response may trigger poor performance just as a positive experience can result in good performance.

Displaying confidence in your students encourages and motivates them

I had not heard this term until now. I have seen it happen in many classes. Some of my students have mentioned they would like to have me in a class again. I believe this is due to my self-belief in them that they can succeed.

This is something my fellow instructors talk about almost every day. We sit down and discuss different techniques we used throughout the week and try to help each other out with teaching methods. Some of our students have a "can't do" attitude. This often results in poor test scores and low self esteem.

The Pygmalion Effect is interesting and it was compared to a self-fulfillment prophecy, basically visualizing and speaking your goals into existence. I want all of my students to do well, and I continue to have that hope even when they may fall short.

I agree. There are sometimes that no matter how much you believe in them and enthusiasm you have, sometimes they don't get it the first time.

If you have faith in your students and are encouraging, they will work hard and hopefully be more successful. I try to be very positive in all of my interactions with students.

Students are like sponges!! They absorb the educator's behavior and actions. That is why we must always be aware of our actions and of our words. We are the mentors.

This is the easiest one for me. I instinctively learned this as a teenager working with younger children. And have used this most of my life. The person doesn't always rise to the expectation. But they do a significant amount of the time.

we have to remember not to build expectations based on prior classes or students, everyone has infinite potential.

I do think this to be true. However, the explanation of the Pygmalion effect was very vage in the reading. Can you explain this to me in more detail.
