teaching aids
I have found that the use of aides draws interest in a lecture by showing with a subject that is being discuss. Student tend to bring up more questions,do you agree this method is good or does serve as a crutch?
Donald ,
there are definitely certain topics that lend themselves to or even demand that we utilize good visual aids.

Visual aids are very important to a welding student. Exspecialy traning tapes on welding. It shows them the right way to weld and what is expected of them.
I try to use as many visual aids as possible when I lecture. I've been told by fellow instructors that they feel you should be careful about this however, because if it is something students want to look at more closely and you choose to pass it around, their interest will be drawn to that item instead of what you are lecturing about. I've taken that to heart and now whenever we inspect something a little more closely, I repeat what I've already lectured and hold off on continuing the new material until everyone has gotten a look at the item.
I have to agree that visual aids do help out very much in the classroom. It helps the student to see exactly what you are talking about and how it works.
I think anything visual helps
Benjamin,
I think aids are a great way to draw interest in the lecture & I don't think they are a crutch. Now, they can become a crutch, but that is up to us to monitor this on ourselves.
