Linking information

One activity I do during lecture is link movies to the material. For instance, when I am talking about spores and how you can't kill them, I link it to all the Die Hard films and that usually makes students laugh and when they are done with class, they remember spores and Die Hard from the lecture.

Jacqulin,
this is a great technique to help the students really solidify the concepts.

I suggest linking information in class to the point that students tell each other to "link it." I tell them to link the concept to their significant other, cat, dog, child, another stuent etc. Really helps.

You are so good! I also use analogies frequently, and it certainly helps students to remember your main point. In addition, it adds that positive emotional aspect.

Diane,
yes you do want to be careful with copyright laws, although for educational purposes many options are open.

Moivues are great reinforces of material taught eapecially in this day and age Movies such as Social Network, Wall Street, especially with the use of YOUTUBE what has to be watched is legal rights and protections about what can and cannot be shown.

Hi Ingrid,

Great example! Since I teach psychology I frequently reference movies to demonstrate psychological disorders or concepts.

Ingrid,
this is a great idea. And I will never look at Bruce Willis the same way again!
