Robin,
and the "hands on" approach can be literally hands on or through working on case studies, role plays, etc if appropriate.

No matter what learning style each student has, the fact remains that hands on is by far the best way for a student to bring home the conclusion, they have learned and will be able to recall their own memory.
Showing students 2 or 3 ways to approach a math problem reinforces my statement, "You all learn in a different way". As long as you get the right answer, work out the problem using the most comfortable method for you.
Teaching culinary arts allows for several opportunities to reenforce knowledge of skill. I often times demonstrate the proper technique for making a dish, but also include a "bad example" to compare results.
Scott,
this is an excellent way to reinforce the learning & ultimately to help the students with retention of vital information.

I like to use students lab work as a way to reinforce what has been learned in a classroom setting. For instance pharmacy technician students will practice the processing of a prescription written for a drug which is also part of the drug information they will be quizzed on that week.
Robert,
these kinds of activities & follow up procedures are a great way to reinforce the theoretical with the practical & is proven to help with retention.
