This helps the students to remain engaged. It is also beneficial for classroom management as the students are less likely to engage in disrupting behavior. The students also tend to feel more of a connection to the instructor and the material when the instructor appears more engaged with the class. It is also disheartening to me when I observe an instructor that never gets up from behind the desk. Perhaps this is their comfort zone, but the students are always more disconnected from that class.

I have a class room that in not set up very well and I cant see all the students when they are sitting down so I must move as am doing my class so that I can see them. also I find it very helpful to stand next to a student who is not on task so all eyes follow me and they usally stop what they are doing and get back on task with out me having to stop and talk to them

To make the lecture more accessible to all. To break the monotomy of normal lecture behind a lectern. It also give more classroom management and control.

I teach standing in the middle near the back of the room.
This makes me available and approachable to the students that have questions or needs.
I make frequent trips up to the white board at the front of the class to draw circuits.
This helps student to be engaged with the topic.

It keeps the classes attention and also cuts down on students who may not be paying attention, because you will be "making rounds." I frequently do this in computer labs when I feel students may be accessing websites and not listening to my lecture. It is also important to move around when students are working on their own, they may have questions or may not be working on the correct assignments.

I think it is very important to move around the classroom. I teach a lab style class, I find students are more willing to ask questions when I stop by and look at what they are working on.

Moving around the classroom allows you to engage individual students. I have better two way conversation when I move about the classroom than I do when I stay up front. I also think it forces students to stay focused. When you move about the class, students feel as if you are aware of whether they are paying attention.

Hi Tim!

I like moving around in the classroom. It keeps students alert and actively participating in classroom activity.

Good job!

For my line of teaching it is vital. I am constantly on the move assisting students with the software programs. It allows me to spot others that may need help but are too shy to ask.

Moving aroung gets you closer to the students. they do not see you as somone standing in front of the class.

I feel it is important to move around the class room when we are having a discussion. It allows me the opportunity to make eye contact and direct discusstions to people sitting in the back. I also walk around the room when the students are working on study guides. I can give them individual help if it is needed.

as a chef instructor, I am always moving about the kitchen, I often will have my class come up tothe stove to watch the demo and take notes. I like to use a few different approaches to learning in one class visit. I never stand in one spot, I always walk the aisles when handing out or checking homework.

I have been better at this and it really does make a big difference. The students who are misbehaving have been doing better. I wish I would have known this right from the start.

I think it is important for me as an instructor to move around in the classroom because it allows me to become more peronsable with the students. I am able to really see what they are or are not doing while I am lecturing. By moving throughout the room, I can catch those students who are not to pay attention and refocus them by standing near them and lecturing. I also think that it makes the students more comfortable in asking me questions because I am right there which makes them seem like less of a distraction.

Allows the instuctor to use the entire room to teach

I use powerpoint slides in my classroom. This forces me to be "immobile" during this time.
When finished with this, I make a concerted effort to move around the room.
I believe it engages both the students and myself.

I have just learned that I may move around too much. It seems I cant talk without walking. I need to look into it and be cognizant of its possible negative impact. Thank you. These help a lot

I like walking around the classroom to observe what they are doing, like if they are taking notes and paying attention. That way I can make last minute changes accordinly to their mood in order to shift their attention and get them engaged in the class. But then while I am walking I do several stops around the classroom to give them a break and let them focus.

Also, I try to get closer to a student whenever they ask a question - I belive this shows I am taking their questions seriously.

By moving aroungd in the classroom Also you can watch for students who like to hide or do not want to be notice.During Test taking it eliminates cheating.

Hi Cindy!

I find that it keeps students much more alert when they don't know what to expect.

Good job!
