Smiling during lectures

I smile all the time during lectures and I have noticed that it really does make my students feel at ease. Each day I come in class I can hear someone say "He's always smiling" It makes me feel good and them as well to know that I truly enjoy my job. Who agrees with me? :)

Smiling is probably the best icebreaker I know of. Often, I'll notice a student enter the classroom with a concerned look on his/her face. A genuine smile will usually put the student right at ease. Smiling makes me feel better as well.

Hi Dawn!

A smile is worth a thousand words and it can connect you to someone with even the hardest exterior.

Keep up the good work!

It is quite amazing how much a smile can change the attitude and disposition of the whole class. I think a smile can be a person's most powerful tool.

I agree. I feel smiling puts my students at ease and allows them be open in their discussions and questions.

Hi Kimberly!

I remember having some of those instructors just didn't want to be there. But by far, I had the instructor who cared about student learning outcomes and building on students'dedication.

Keep up the good work!

I agree. Whenever my teacher used to smile during my classes, I always thought "Wow, he is in a good mood. He is glad to be here to teach me." If there was no smiling, then I felt like they were mad, irritated or just didn't want to be there.

I most definately agree with you. I feel it makes the students more relaxed and confident in my classroom. They comment about me smiling a lot as well. I also want them to know I enjoy what I am doing and desire an atmosphere conducive for learning.
