eye contact

Eye contact is very important. It shows the students you are in charge and in control of the class. Not only that, it creates a personal connection with the students. As a new instructor, I use to get nervous and avoid eye contact. However, I found that I had more control over my class if I make an effort to make eye contact with everyone in class.

Hi Regina!

It's amazing how just that simple connect can make such a difference in behaviors and attitudes.

keep up the good work!

I have never worked in a setting where I have lectured in a large audience type of setting, but on a daily basis I speak with patients one-on-one. I find that when I make eye contact with a patient when I talk to them about their treatment I think they feel that you care about them and their health. I think they also take you more seriously as a health care professional when you give them your undivided attention.

I think as a student I would feel that if my instructor wasn't giving any type of eye contact that they are not confident in what they are teaching and that would make me not confident that I am being taught everything I need to know.

I was the same way as a new instructor but over time I became more comfortable with making eye contact with the student's. At this point in time it's pretty much second nature and it absolutely get's them more involved in the class.
