Moving around the room

I float and make eye contacy because it lets me know that student are paying attention to me and it also helps keep them moving as they follow me around the room.I also can make adjustments or backtrack on the info a little if I begin to see the deer in the headlights look.

Same here, If i just sit at my desk students are much more likely to space out. I also like to be animated during a lecture and communicate using body language as well as my voice. Its hard to communicate your passion for a topic if you are motionless the entire lecture.

I think being aware of our students' feelings by moving into their space and making eye contact is crucial to assessment and gives opportunities to the more shy student to ask questions of the instructor in a more personal way. After getting a feeling for the individuals, I know what to re-emphasize.
