In all of my classes, I make sure that I make a reference to a personal experience. I also encourage my students to do the same. It brings about great discussions.

Also if a student can relate the subject matter to a personal experience they will have a easier time recalling the information in the future. Explaining the information to another student is great they are repeating the content of there findings to another student so not only helping another student but retaining the knowledge.

I feel anything the students can do as a class gives them more confidence in what you are teaching. I always have my student interact with each other on the topic at hand.
