Mannerism
When entering into a classroom you as an instructor should be very careful of your mind set because as soon as you walk through the door all eyes are on you and students are reading you like a hit on face book. I guess what I'm saying is that anything that is not pertaing to the subject you are teaching leave it outside the class it could effect your teaching and the way your students respond to you.
I agree with this because if you enter your classroom with something other than what you are teaching on your mind then it will distract the students and they will not want to listen because you are distracted and it will distract them too.
I see this everyday when walking into class. They look to us as mentors. I believe they not only take our knowledge, but also some of our actions with them in life. I think it's such a compliment when I have an activity for the students to come up front and teach a paragraph from their text and they carry on my teaching form. It makes me smile.
Michele,
this is great advice & I think we too often underestimate the ability of our students to pick up on these things. We want to be "real" and we want to be professional. Find that balance.
