Fidgeting..What's your habit?
I noticed I am guilty of a fidgety habit while speaking in the classroom. I wear a lanyard to secure my work badge, this lanyard is on a retractable string and I tend to tug on the badge, wrapping the cord around my fingers, letting go and then doing it again. Either during those 3-5 second pauses after asking/answering questions or when delivering information which could be considered "mundane". Going over this material really helped me to identify my fidgety habit and make corrections!
John,
It is difficult at times to eliminate all of our "quirks" but we need to try & eliminate the biggest ones & the most distracting for sure.

When I read the descriptions of fidgeting in the course, I knew I did some of them. "Don't roll the piece of paper up" haha.
Knowing is half the battle, actually I think its much more than half.
The remainder will come from becoming more comfortable with the class and the material
I now know that I also have an issue with figeting. I fidget with either a paperclip or my pen, I have an issue with idle hands the same as you do Nicole. I also did not realize how annoying and distracting it could be to students.
John,
been there, done that, I've found that if I empty my pockets ahead of time there's nothing for me to fidget with.

I fidget with my pen cap in my pocket highlighter, and also my change.
Glad to know I'm not the only one Nicole, badge and Expo markers!

I believe I also have a fidgety problem that I was not aware of before reading over this lesson! I, too, play with my ID badge, which unfortunately has keys attached to it. I think in order to overcome this terrible habit, I will take my badge off for classes. I have an issue with idle hands. If it isn't the badge, it's the dry erase marker or just a regular pin. I am sure it drives my students nuts. Now that I have thought about it, I am going to make concerted efforts to take down these habits. I never thought about just how much it could distract my students!
