Road Maps
The reading in module 1 suggests giving students a handout with an outline of they key topics that are going to be covered as well as listing on the board the most commonly asked questions about that day's topic. Do you all do both of those or just one? Or do you do something entirely different at the start of each class?
I find that I give them the information we are going to cover verbally. I have to work on some type of handout for them.
I do however, tie in the importance of those concepts to the current assignment we are working on so they understand not only what we are going to cover, but also how they will be applying the information to their weeks assignment.
I think this provides the "What's in it for me" portion that is so important for students to understand.
