As a new instructor I was very intimidated to walk around as I thought this may have been a sign of nerves.
After taking this course I am more at ease at this and have been able to understand the inner workings of the classroom better. I can see things from a different angle and students also seem to be paying more attention.
I have also implemented the note card suggestion. This has allowed me to stay focused and seem prepared.
Debra,
this is great & glad it has been helpful. Movement is a good idea, as long as we don't go to an extreme & look like a caged animal.

I think you are absolutely on the right track . I have refrained from this , for the most part because I have subconsciously used the podium as a barrier , and to a lesser degree , because I needed to be near the computer to advance the powerpoint slides . the last lecture I gave was one in which few students had any experience with or interest in . by the time I had spent the first 1/3 of class behind the podium , the entire back row was head - down on the table , sound asleep . no joke . I think if I had been standing back there with them , my delivery would have been a) more effective and b) less likely to induce narcolepsy ! again , I believe you are on the right track and I will follow your lead as best I can .
