Eye contact

By maintaining eye contact it give the student feeling that they are part of the class and I think it help the instructor to know if the student understand the topics.

I find making eye contact with each student in the class during lecture helps me identify if the students are connecting with what i am teaching. There are several instances that i have been able to identify that i need to further clarify the subject matter by seeing the expression on students' faces. Some students will not ask questions but their facial expression tells a lot. Also eye contact also keeps the students engaged with the intructor

I agree with that but what if you have a student that never looks up and you have a hard time getting them to make the eye contact? I have had this a couple of times and it is hard to do.

Suhad,
yes, we can tell a lot by making eye contact & it does help connect with the students.

Eye contact will allow me to know where I stand,do I need to better explain, let you know that you need to pay attention, and in general how well are my students showing interest.

I absolutely agree with you Stephanie. I use eye contact during lecture for several reasons. #1 Pay attention to me...this is important #2 I value what you are saying to me if or when s student(s) asks questions #3 Who does not understand the material.

Eye contact is a vital part of the teaching/learning process. Students feel inclusion within the classroom environment with periodic eye contact from the instructor but eye contact also assists the instructor on which student or students may or may not be understanding the concept(s) being taught.
