New students
I like to put the new students in groups with former students as they feel more relaxed working with them on the first few days rather than working alone. It gives them an immediate support system. Has anyone tried this?
In some of the classes, there are new and old students. I have had many new students say, they have felt welcomed from day 1, the older students take them under their wings, mentoring, guiding, they are a support system for each other.
I like to bring together my new students with the former class this way my former class can share their experience with the new students.

Our school has a modular program; always new students coming in. Always a good idea to group the newbies with the seniors. The seniors take on a mentoring role and the newbies feel more comfortable with the group afterwards.
Hi Lisa
I like to do the same thing but I like to put the new people in a group together.
i dont have the luxury of pairing new with old, but when i see some group anxiety I will let the students in on some of my past experiences with working in groups so they dont feel like they are on an island.
Hi Lisa!
No, I have not tried this - but I really like the idea of a "mentoring" approach. I will try it!
Thanks for a perfect example of learning from someone's experience.
Keep up the good work!
