montering the class
By getting up and moving around the class room I'm able to keep the class on task.
Walking around slowly, eye contact, smiling...all good methods of encouraging learning.
Thomas,
Yes, this often does seem to be one of the things we let go first in our very busy schedules. But as you stated here, it is so important for accountability & to demonstrate care to our students.

Monitoring the the students is I feel a difficult task for any instructor , but we have to get used to it, but it makes all involved and creates a feeling to the students that they are being well cared
Walking around the room works very well
Michael,
Definitely true & the more we can show our students that we are engaged & care about their success, the more likely they are to be engaged & care about their own success.

I agree that it helps keep the class on task, and I would like to add that it also lets them know that you are involved, and that you realy care that they are learning.
Jacqueline ,
Yes, it is amazing what the presence of the instructor does for students task focus. This works well in lecture situations as well as when students are working in small groups.
