I feel that gaining the respect of students is the most important aspect of teaching.If you gain the respect, all other aspects seam to come easier and the student becomes more engaged even it the subject matter may not be very interesting to them. It opens the avenue of learning something that they didn't expect to.

I make a courageous effort to listen to my students. I am quite good at keeping count of who has a question or concern and eventually during the course of the lesson answering the question. Whether directly or indirectly.
Demonstrating good listening skills in the classroom allows one to let their students know they are valued and respected.
