Smaller Classes

It states 8-10 in a group but with smaller class sizes that is not possible. I for one like smaller groups 3-4. It creates more imput from all students.

Ray,
yes, the smaller groups generally are better. It does depend on the purpose of the group as sometimes 3-5 can provide a good discussion.

In my opinion 2-3 student per group is the best. 2 per group is the best just not always possible due to lack of training equip.

I teach a blended class of lecture and lab. The lab gives me an opportunity to break the students into smaller groups. This portion of the class is "hands on", so the student not only have time to share ideas with each other, but have time with the instructor to ask questions they might not normally ask in a large group of students. I usually prefer groups of 3 or less. More than that you may lose the attention of some students.

I agree. I found that dividing the students into smaller groups gives more participation from each student. Each student has a task at hand while not leaving one left out or one student not wanting to participate. All have to work together to complete the task.
