Student groups

Groups don't allways work well with my content or student base. I make sure that I am moving and engaging all students and learning from ther reactions to me how I might could enhance participation in the class

John ,
and when they have these prior relationships these can really be leveraged to help in the group work & to emphasize the shared experiences & learning.

Generaly i will have between 15 - 30 students in my classroom. A large percentage of them have been together in other classes together so they allready have that relationship and would like to be together in there group. I am open minded but put emphasis on learning, sharing there learning with each others and having dialog to ensure success.

If i use student groups they are small, only have 30 students at most most of the time its less than 20.

jacqueline,
so true. Now, this means that we have to stay engaged with the groups.Sometimes they become an excuse for me to check out.

I find that using learning groups have been benificial to not only the students but to myself as well. It gives the students the opportunity to engage each other in meaningful work and I can be an observer and only interject when called upon.
