i've found out that when students work in groups that aar diversed they are more willing as well as mindful with someone with a diffcultie
I also think it is important to treat all students with respect and I try to use it as a positive rather than a negative trait if the student is bi-lingual. The students at our school are diverse, however we do have a large spanish speaking latino population. I also comment on how great it is to be bi-lingual and how it can open up many opportunities in their future careers. I try to help them feel more confident by encouraging them to do mini- presentations prior to doing their required 5-6 min. presentations for a project grade. By doing the mini-presentations this helps the student build up their self-confidence.

Whether it is a foreign student, a challenged or handicapped student, a student who struggles to read, they usually do recognize their deficits and barriers before instructors. Unfortunately they live with it daily and then we have those people who are eager to point it out.
It sounds like you are sensitive to students' learning needs.

Yes, it is. I teach large population of foreign students and the amazing thing is that they are usually able to identify their deficits and barriers before I can.
