Strategies for Working with Students with Learning Needs

I would be very interested in learning more about the strategies of dealing with this challenge

The textbook, workbook, power points and a battery of hundreds of test questions all come from the same author and publisher. Rather than reinvent the wheel, we introduce some of the multiple choice test questions in brief quizes.
At the risk of teaching the test instead mastering the subject, we break down some of the questions. Ask the students to rephrase the question. Try synonyms for the more difficult terminology. Point out prefixes and suffixes. Out of four possible answers to a question, eliminate one or more obviously false ones. Because the students may see some of these same questions again, this may be a teachable moment to strengthen reading skills they will use in their research later.

Hi Don!

Willingness
Open to making classroom adjustments
Open to assisting students with test taking
Good communication skills particularly listening
Slower pace

I am sure there are others but the real point here is there is very little difference in working with a student who has learning needs than with working with any other student. Now - those students with learning disabilities - which are differenct than learning needs - are a different story.

They may need special equipment, a personal assistant, an IEP, etc.

Keep up the good work!
