Writing Deficiencies in Writing Classes

One of the concepts that was discussed in this module was addressing students with reading and writing deficiencies. It's often easy to spot these students, but sometimes even very basic writing instruction is not enough!
Does anyone have any great tips on how to make connections to these students in ways that we can boost their learning and their writing level? I'd love to hear more information on how to do that!

The Composition teachers need to devote more time to APA style so that when the students come to the CJ courses are prepared to write 8-10 page papers. Schools need more assistance in tutoring the troubled students.

I have been encouraging my students to write their homework while in class and then type it for extra credit. I think this helps them to visually see the spelling and grammatical errors they made. This will also encourage them to use enhance their typing skills and also to use spell check.

Hi Beth!

Instructors have to be many things to students - don't they? But when we do that are we then neglecting the facilitation of learning? What do you think?

The thought that I have on your post is if you have a student that needs more - you may have to make that happen outside the regular classroom time.

Keep up the good work!
