I was once an ADD...
After I learned what it was and that it was up to me to pay attention, now I hight have to reread a page twice but now I can remember what I read if I want to...
I can easely recognize a student with ADD, it helps me in my teaching, we have something in commum...
I think you make a great point Mike. It seems everyone has some sort of ADD. I know from experience that my students can't stay focused for more than about 30 minutes at one time. I try to make sure I either have some pass around, ask students questions, or will do a simple state change by having the students stand up and walk around to get re-focused and then start up again on my lesson plan.
hi Gilbert--I teach bread baking, and like most things in the foodservice arena, multiple things happen in varying sequences all day long. It is a safe environment for students with ADD because psychomotor activities are so varied. It is easy to fit into the work environment. When it's time for reading, then the problem becomes apparent.
I just assume that everyone in my class has some degree of ADD when I design my lessons and lectures and reading assignments. I never have more than a 20 minute assignment at any given time. I myself have trouble keeping my mind focused on something for longer than ten minutes. So i think in term sof this when designing any learning activity for students.
I don';t know how I would fare in a more cognitively-based environment, but this time limit for activity seems to work well in a primarily psychomotor environment.

When you are teaching in an online environment with a student that has disabilities, establishing their disability and providing support immediately is very important.
Yes thank you again for your response. I found this module particularly helpful. I wasn't aware I could ask about past IEPs to help students succeed :)
Gilbert, thank you for your personal experience on this topic. I would imagine it is most helpful to have lived the concern rather than avoiding the issues. I admire you immensly for your supportive approach. Gary
