IEP's

Do we allow tests to be read to students weithout the proper documentation upon verbal request? Do the federal Laws apply in the post-secondary schools?

I find some of the students don't always share with their instructor that they have given provisions to use the IEP to their benefit. Thankfully we have an outstanding student services department that monitors these students and advises them to take full advantage of their accomodations.

Hi Rick!

Did you read the following from ED106?

Once a student graduates from high school or reaches the age of 21 the IEP no longer applies. This means that when the students are in your class they are not entitled by law to have special accommodations made for them. They are protected from discrimination by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) but not covered in terms of instructional accommodations. Some of your students may tell you what past accommodations were of help to them and how these accommodations can be implemented in the career college setting. As previously noted, your particular institution may already have policies and procedures in place as well for working with adult learners with disabilities or challenges.

If you find additional info, please post.

I would be very interested to know more on this subject. has any additional data or information become available on this topic?

A teacher must be up on IEP compliance. If you have any questions about what to do - check with your DOI.

Hi Darrell!

Have you determined if federal laws apply yet? I'm sure that info would be beneficial to all.

Thanks,

We are allowing tests to be read upon verbal request in the redline courses. I do believe the federal laws still apply but I will check.
